GREEN MOUNTAIN STAGE RACE
By Roger

bracelets in memory of Chance)
I wrote
a little heads up article last week before we made the trip up to Vermont. Maybe it
make more sense now when you just finished one of the biggest and most
competitive stage races on the east coast, if not in the whole country. FinKraft had 13 athletes + Roger competing in various
categories. This race puts everything in road racing to a test; fitness,
mental strength, recovery, tactics, equipment and just to be able to deal
with logistics like living together with teammates and racing hard every
day.

+ - Roger wins
The most
remarkable story was John Landino in the Cat 3’s.
He had a bad day the very first day in the time trial and finished 59th.
He knew that his fitness was at its very best and fought back every day
there after, helped his team mate finish 2nd in the circuit
race. Then on the road race John had his ride of his life finishing 2nd
on the Mad River road race (last 500 meters about 18%), with this
performance he jumped up to 12th and on the 4th day
was the Burlington Crit where John barely missed
the podium with a strong 4th place. This took him to 10th
over all and his teammate 5th overall. A stellar show of
strength in all aspects!

John Landino
- 2nd in the RR in Green Mountain, 4th in the Crit. -
10th overall
In the masters 40+, Kevin Hines was
very consistent, especially in the road race Kevin established himself in
the over all with a 6th place. Kevin is world-class athlete all
around. With a motorcycle racing background and National age group Champion
in Mountain bikes. Kevin is also one of the fastest masters
cyclocross racers in the Country. We will here a
lot more from this athlete this fall for sure.

Burlington
FGX
rider Mike Beckerman took 7th place in the cat 4 TT and then
aided his team mate Robert Harber to 5th
place in the road race and 8th over all.

Rob Lattanzi,
Roger, Troy, Kevin Hines inthe Crit on the last day - Troy came in 3rd
Troy Kimball, always a factor in
the master races, was instrumental to Roger’s wins and Robert Lattenzi’s 3rd place over all in the 40+. In
addition Troy finished 3rd
penultimate day in Burlington.
In the Cat 2’s Mark Pohndorf, Andreas and Evan Cooper were all knocking on
the door to top 10 finishes in the different stages. Evan finished 17th
over all which is a great achievement for the 19 year old in a very competitive
field.

Andreas
towards the end of the GMSR Road Race
Al Blachard
who is not coached by Finkraft , but joins us on many rides and is a true teammate to
many of us, had a great experience in his first stage race. After
constantly placing in the top 10 in every stage took a very respectable 7th
over all. Competing against our friend and currently the 50+ World Champion in the time trial, Dimitry Buben.

Race
Even if
you do not place, win the over all or a stage, you come away with a
tremendous amount of fitness and even more important; experience. Just
completing the race and doing your best every day is a victory in its self.
Learning
new things from teammates and fellow racers is invaluable, but learning new
things about yourself is what will make you a better racer.
