Congratulations
to Peter Jameson for completing his 2nd Iron Man and breaking his PR
Peter is a hard working and up for
the challenge kind of athlete. He might not be competing for the overall
win, but he trains as hard as anyone of us and he does not pick the easy
races on the calendar either. When I first started to coach Peter he had never
even completed a marathon or any longer triathlons for that matter.
The first thing he told me was that his goal was to do a full Iron Man.

We started off by
preparing him for his first Marathon
in VT. We moved on to a very busy racing schedule that summer in Triathlons
and then the whole fall focused on getting ready for his big challenge ,
the 2008 Ford Iron Man , AZ . Peter completed that one in 14.22, the time
was not important, we had reached his goal.
After a well deserved break, we assumed the training, little less racing
this summer and more precise training, now with a power meter and a GPS . Peter picked the Iron Man Florida this time,
little earlier and now with more experience we had bigger hopes and just
finishing was not enough. Peter shaved over one hour off his previous time,
now in 13.09, in addition to a sub 5 hour marathon in the
end. This shows you, that if you put your mind to something, even as a
“regular working person”, busy with almost no free time to spare, you can
achieve amazing things, like an Iron Man.
It is called "determination".
Peter will submit a write up on his Iron Man experience shortly.
Evan Cooper’s take on his recent news of competing for IF
Racing Team in 2010

“I'd be
lying if I said I wasn't a little surprised when I finally heard the news
about my new squad for the 2010 season. After weeks of refreshing my
email non-stop and much anxiety about where I would end up, I finally got
my answer; I could not be more thrilled. For 2010, I'll be joining the
Independent Fabrications Racing team. The guys in green pulled off some
truly impressive results last year at some seriously big-time races, so
there is no doubt that I am in good company and at the best possible
place for my development. I'm really thrilled that my work last season
paid off and that I am now going to be in the position to learn from some
really strong and knowledgeable team mates. I know it's going to be a big
year for me, and I can't wait to see how it turns out. Oh, and the
awesome IF bikes we'll be riding don't hurt things either.”
FinKraft athletes compete in the ING NYC Marathon

Kim Aspholm at Mile 19
The NYC Marathon just took place
on Now 1st.
Our Finkraft ladies Kim and Bernadette took
part of the spectacular even as well as one of our clients Thomas Shebell.
It is the Olympics right here in NYC, the atmosphere is amazing , running 26.2 miles with millions of people
lined alongside the entire course start to finish. No matter what kind of
athlete you are, this is something that would be worth doing once in your
lifetime.
We also had an athlete, Christopher Marino that has used our testing
services, The FaCT lactate balance point ( LBP) test in particular. He stuck to his test
values in the training leading up to the marathon and these HR/pace
values were the race strategy for the Marathon, here is Chris quote
after;
" I ran a slight negative split and I felt the best I have ever
felt in the last 6 miles"
Congrats to all four runner for breaking the magic 4 hour mark.
The
times for our athletes:
Thomas Shebell 3.23
Christopher Marino 3.33
Kim Aspholm 3.53
Bernadette Carlson 3.59
USAC-NE: Update
on UCI Official Harry Lam who got hurt most recently in a Cross Race were
Roger, Ralf and Kyle competed in
Good Evening,
I wanted to pass along the status of our UCI official, Harry Lam from Utah, that was
injured at Northampton this past
weekend. Harry's wife gave us the okay today to share his condition with
everyone. Harry did sustain a skull fracture,
brain bleed, two black eyes, and a broken
nose from a collision with a rider at the finish of the M35
race on Saturday. Fortunately Harry did not require surgery and has
already begun working with a physcial
therapist. He is in the early stages of recovery and has a long road
ahead of him. The good news is that Harry was being released from the
hospital today. Harry's wife and parents drove up from Virginia yesterday
and will be taking him back to VA where he will stay with his parents until
he is cleared to fly back to UT, which could be a couple of months.
We have set-up a donation fund on Bike Reg to
help Harry's family our with his medical
expenses. The link to the donation fund is: http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=9607.
Harry and his family do send along their thanks for everyone's support
and well wishes in this tough time.
If anyone has further questions please feel free to e-mail me off the
group at tini17@comcast.net.
Thanks,
Kristen Mills
