DEDICATION
By Roger
Eric Carlson at
the
Harriman Duathlon
Putting the time
and effort into the sport you love is what it takes to succeed on any
level. If you are a cat 1, a cat 4-road racer, a tri-athlete, a runner or a
recreational athlete that just trying to stay in shape, it does not matter.
To reach any kind of goals or progress it requires consistency and effort.
Eddy Merckx once said, “to be a good bike racer
you have to ride your bike “To manage your time is key
as well. If you only have 8 hours a week to spare you have to make every
hour count. Still get your endurance workout in, tempo, race or high
intensity intervals and of course recovery. This might mean sacrificing and
taking a day off the bike to get a 3 hour ride an other day, racing less
and training more or just adding more structure into you training regime,
coaching.

Duathlon
These past weeks
we had several proofs of this theory. First our tri-athletes who have
really been working hard this summer and they are on an extremely
structured training program to be able to fit in 3 sports into their busy
lives.
Matt Scott is the
man behind our FinKraft Logo and a lot of other
graphic design work that we are using for FinKraft
Coaching. Matt is also an up and coming tri-athletes that has trained with
me for 2 years now and has made a tremendous effort to get where he is
today. Matt won his first triathlon in his age group this past weekend in the
WestPoint triathlon. In addition he took 3rd at the SBR
triathlon the day before.

Matt Scott
won West Point Triathlon & 3rd at the SBR Triathlon
David Marcus
signed on with FinKraft in the beginning of this
year and he also switched to triathlons at the same time. The swim was new
to him, but his learning curve and determination to facing the
challenge of completely learning a new sport when you are 50 years old is
amazing. I highly admire that quality in an athlete (believe me it has
crossed my mind a few times, what if I took up swimming?) David is
extremely motivated to train and is now starting to understand how really
push himself and maximize his effort in a race. David took 3rd
in the SBR triathlon in his age group.

Dave Marcus - 3rd
at the SBR Triathlon
Kyle Wolfe, our
assistant coach, did the Harriman Triathlon himself and came in 9th
over all, back to the roots where his started as and athlete more than 20
years ago. He also coaches Evenly McCabe how won here age group both in the
SBR and the Harriman Triathlon.
Then
we have our wives and friends, that are sometimes the most amazing athletes
and have hidden talents, that show up and beat up
the competition with no warning. They work out as much as they can and when
they can, but are not on a strict training program, they just have fun
challenging against each other. Trish 1st in the duathlon age group, Bernadette 2nd and
Kimberly 3rd in their age group duathlon .
Congratulation to these ladies! And of course our fighter Eric who also completed
the duathlon with a very respectable bike leg and
with no running in his legs, Mondays hurt after these kind
of events!!

The FGX Team that
we coach has a lot of talent and a great attitude about racing. It is fun
for them to be racing their bikes every time they pin a number on. A big
objective ever since I first meet with them was to race as a TEAM. With
mainly Cat 4’s and a few Cat 3’s that is not easy, as you would think. If
you ever been in a Cat 4 race, you know what I am talking about. We use
very basic tactics and try to have each guy on the team be part of the race
as much as possible. This past month has been a very successful month for
FGX.
We are now winning
races, these guys know that the fitness part is key
and the training is going really well, but now there is finally a more
cohesive team effort in each race.
Zak Abdullah is
another perfect example of us figuring out what kind a training schedule
works with his crazy work schedule. Zak has won 3 races this past month,
including the Cat 4 worlds (Lou Maltese) this past Sunday.
Christophe Jammet took 2nd behind Zak in the Lou
Maltese and was very instrumental in Zak’s win. CJ is a driving force
behind FGX and thanks to him, Team FGX is being
put on the NYC map in many aspects. A secondary goal was to get a few guys
to upgrade and strengthen the Cat 3 squad as well. Alvin Problacion just did so after winning the Cat 4 Tokeneke road race. Mike Beckerman, the CRCA Cat 4 TT
Champion has won this season more than once as well. More important he also
often animates the races, to the teams favor like his past Sunday with a
late attack and force the other sprinter teams to
burn out their lead out men. There are about 15 guys on this team, every
single guy is fit enough to win a race, but often sacrify
themselves for the team. Congratulations on a great season so far, keep the
ball rolling now!
KYLE WOLFE
FINKRAFT'S
NEW ASSISTANT COACH
FinKraft is excited to have Kyle Wolfe as a
new Assistant Coach.
Welcome to the
team!

Athletic Background
Kyle quickly
realized his passion for endurance sports after setting the school record
for the mile run in only the fourth grade. When he discovered the
thrill and excitement of cycling, Kyle knew he had found his calling.
Kyle competed in his first bike race
at age 15 and his first triathlon at 16. Growing up in a football
family where his father was the school’s coach, Kyle applied the
performance and aggression taught on the gridiron to the road itself.
Kyle has raced at the elite level across this
country and in Europe , and continues to race his bicycle at the
Elite and Masters level for road and cyclocross
where he has enjoyed a lot of success and fun over the past years, in the
present and definitely into the future.
Coaching Experience
After a lifetime of coaching exposure and input, Kyle
combines that with his decades of competitive experience to work with
athletes to help them achieve their goals and dreams. Two years of
managing and directing a national level u-25 cycling team has also helped
Kyle refine his skills and abilities.
Kyle is also a licensed USA Cycling
official, an UCI registered Directeur Sportif and of course a certified USA Cycling
coach.
The peloton in a bike race is
a living breathing thing. Learning to anticipate its feelings and
learn from its motion will always lead to success. “Pick a good
wheel, and don’t look back.”
